One powerful story about legacy is that of Mother Teresa. Born as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in 1910, Mother Teresa devoted her life to serving the poorest of the poor. She founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, which has grown to over 4,500 nuns running orphanages, AIDS hospices, and charity centers worldwide. Her unwavering commitment to compassion and selflessness earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and a lasting place in the hearts of millions. Mother Teresa’s legacy is in the institutions she founded and the spirit of love and service she instilled in countless people worldwide. Her life demonstrates that authentic leadership is about selfless service and indelibly impacting humanity.

Thinking About Your Legacy

Creating a lasting legacy requires leaders to think beyond their immediate achievements and consider the long-term impact they want to leave on their organization, community, and the broader world. Here are some actionable steps to help leaders inspire and empower future generations to achieve greatness.
